If our Official Live Performances of “pov” and “safety net” reveal anything, it’s that Ariana Grande excels at her job because she’s so passionate about the results. You don’t hit the high notes, you don’t exude candor, and you don’t make pop music as moving as she does without crossing the T’s and dotting the I’s. A very cool Cali session with the look and feel of a cozy little meadow was a perfect place to turn some of the best tunes on ‘Positions’ into utterly memorable performances. Go Team Ari. In a typically inventive move, our hero chose to loop her vocals when it came time to perform the album’s title track. Watch her augment the band’s moves with a little layering of her voice. As she references both the kitchen and the bedroom in her lyrics, the sound stacks up, taking on its own internal rhythm. Beautiful.

2018 was a big year for Pablo, Josh, Stell, Ken, and Justin. It's when they first united into a great music experiment, uniting as SB19, and making major ripples in the world of Pinoy pop. The Philippines has a wealth of talented artists, but with each passing years the guys have made their way forward, becoming more and more successful in their region and, now, globally. Because of Korea's proximity, Pinoy pop has cast a long shadow on musicians and singers in the Philippines. The SB19 squad have a good grip on all the elements that inform their path and comprise their particular sound. Check previous hits such as "MAPA" and new pieces like "GENTO" (from last summer's 'PAGTATAG!' EP) for a look at well-crafted earworms as well as sleek harmonies. They performed the latter and "I WANT YOU" in our studio. And they made a LOT of heads turn doing so.

The Beaches - Edge of the Earth. An exclusive performance for Vevo.

Ever watch a billowing cloud morph from a face to a piece of popcorn to an elephant? That’s what it’s like listening to The Beaches, the guitar-driven indie rock crew who hail from Toronto but sound like they could’ve elbowed The Strokes backstage at a mid-aughts Webster Hall show or shared a Troubadour bill with The GoGo’s in 1980. The Miller sisters comprise half the band - Jordan on lead vocals and bass, Kylie on guitar. As starry-eyed teens, the sibs had a group with drummer Eliza Enman-McDaniel. When guitarist Leandra Earl joined in 2013, they officially dubbed themselves The Beaches. In 2017, indie rock fans welcomed the punchy verve of debut album ‘Late Show,’ which made it clear that these Canadians liked to stomp it up. Last year’s ‘Blame My Ex’ keeps all the angular guitar riffs and synth candy in place, but adds pop craft. The quasi title track “Blame Brett” pulls off the rare feat of being both a lovable TikTok soundbite and a full-fledged alt radio hit. If you’re in the crowd at any of The Beaches two-dozen-plus shows this spring in ‘24, you might catch Jordan crooning like Robert Smith in their patented “Boys Don’t Cry” cover. “Edge of the Earth” is a setlist staple, too. Easy to see why.

Halle Bailey needs no introduction, but it’s always fun to itemize the successes of an exploding star. In 2023, the actress-singer shaped the culture for the better as Ariel in Disney’s live action reboot of ‘The Little Mermaid.’ Her and her sister Chlöe have been associated with the mouse for over a decade, winning Radio Disney competitions and starring on the channel’s teen shows. You know who’s been a fan from the jump? Queen Bey herself, who brought the Bailey’s on tour and signed them to her Parkwood label. Tastemakers really started paying attention in 2020 when the sibs dropped their debut R&B album ‘Ungodly Hour.’ In rolled GRAMMY awards and a fresh wave of R&B fans.
