How could rock ever be played out with a band like The Warning at the helm of the genre? It’s not just that the sister trio from Monterrey, Mexico bring fresh perspective to the white, male-dominated landscape. It’s also the fact that, since screaming into nominative existence with 2017’s ‘XXI Century Blood’ and ‘Queen of the Murder Scene’ the following year, evolution and authenticity has been at the crux of their craft. For starters, Daniela, Paulina, and Alejandra Villarreal are total players. Check the bass riff that kicks off “Dust to Dust” for instance. It’d make Steve Harris blush. 2022 album ‘ERROR’ traded turnt-up arrangements for more subtle guitar styles, clearing out room for Daniela to really shout from the chest. The community responded by making it one of the most popular rock records of that year. Spend time roaming ‘Planet Her’ and you’ll know that Doja Cat’s artistic vision never sleeps. The singer’s desire to develop rich musical and visual environments for her fans is job one, and this new album, her third after ‘Amala’ and ‘Hot Pink,’ is her most fully-realized statement yet. Doja has told interviewers that she wanted to take chances, try new approaches, and create “otherworldly” sounds. Job done. The same goes for these new Official Live Performances. After meeting with the singer and her creative team, our production crew got to work in a canyon outside of LA. There, assuring that “otherworldly” request was appropriately fleshed out, we built a 48’ stage in the center of a rocky crag. Doja, banking on a combo of skills, artistry, and perseverance, did the rest. “Ain’t Shit” finds her chastising those who don’t live up to her standards, indictments leveled with some dreamy grooves behind them. Watch her prowl the stage. She’s as comfy in a Cali desert as she was in that giant saucer of milk she glided through in our “Streets” LIFT performance last year. Acting isn’t the only thing that Olivia Rodrigo is great at. When the ‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’ star dropped her “drivers license” video back at the start of the year, the overwhelming response made it clear that she had a way of deeply communicating with listeners not only as an actor, but as an artist. Views-wise, it crossed the 200-million mark in just four months. Pretty impressive for someone who had never put out an album on her own. Rodrigo, who proved “drivers license” was no fluke when “deja vu” also hit a home run upon release last month, is fixing that. Her ‘Sour’ debut arrives on May 21, and by the time it gets here, she will have performed at both the BRIT Awards and Saturday Night Live. Billboard reports that the 18-year-old pop phenom is the “first artist to send her first two proper singles straight into the Hot 100’s top 10.” The SoCal native, who wrote “driver’s license” with her pal Dan Nigro, recently told the press that she was obsessed with emotions, and loved her jobs as both actor and musician because they allow her to be so expressive. Our Extended Play series is tailor made for a band like Imagine Dragons. On the one hand, the pop-rockers' scale and ambition can barely be contained by the stadiums they regularly sell out. For the group behind ubiquitous hits like “Thunder,” “Radioactive,” and “Believer,” success is measured in millions and billions. Such impact can feel impenetrable, but our performance-interview series is all about pulling back the curtain a bit. And on the other hand there’s singer Dan Reynolds. An open book, he’s the band’s primary songwriter, and a fascinating one at that. We saw that up close when we linked up with ID at Conway Studios, where Reynolds, guitarist Wayne Sermon, and bassist Ben McKee created their latest album, ‘LOOM,’ under the guidance of producers Mattman & Robin. “Nice To Meet You” was the final song written for the project, but ultimately became a single. Fans will love seeing this intimate performance of the track; it’s charmingly looser than the recorded version. “It should feel like party,” said Dan in rehearsals. Celebrations have only just begun - more performances and a revealing interview is on the way.

Shot in the Crystal Ballroom of the Biltmore Hotel in LA, “Lost Cause” had a little more grandeur. And “Billie Bossa Nova,” our final performance of this series, added a touch of sultriness and more than a touch of vintage jazz vibes to these hotel chronicles. We saved the coolest for last.
